Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for May 2024
Summer Job Hunt Made Easy for Parents and Teens: Child-Friendly Hours and Opportunities Galore
GADSDEN, LEON & WAKULLA COUNTIES, Fla. – According to the FloridaCommerce, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 3.2 percent for May 2024.
The region’s May 2024 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point greater than the region’s year ago rate of 3.0 percent. Wakulla County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6 percent, followed by Leon County at 3.2 percent, and Gadsden County at 3.8 percent. The region's May 2024 unemployment rate was 0.2 percentage point above the state rate of 3.0 percent. There was a total of 6,292 unemployed residents in the Capital Region during May.
The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in May 2024 were as follows:
- Registered Nurses
- Retail Salespersons
- Secretaries and Administrative Assistants, Except Legal, Medical, and Executive
- First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers
- Customer Service Representatives
- Computer Occupations, All Other
As the summer heats up, parents and teens alike face the annual challenge of balancing free time with productive activities. This year, CareerSource Capital Region is stepping up to make the job search easier with a range of opportunities tailored for parents as well as young adults seeking summer employment and valuable work experience — all with child-friendly hours in mind.
For many families, the summer break means juggling childcare while also trying to find meaningful activities for their teens. Recognizing this need, CareerSource Capital Region is assisting companies fill a variety of positions that not only provide essential work experience but also fit seamlessly into the summer schedule. Whether it's a few hours a week or a more structured commitment, there are options to suit every family's needs.
"Our goal is to support both parents and teens during the summer months by highlighting work opportunities that accommodate their schedules," said Charlotte Brown, HR & Communications Director. "We understand the importance of teens gaining work experience and fulfilling volunteer hours while also ensuring that they have the time to enjoy their summer break. We also understand that during the summer, when parents are needing assistance at our career center, they may need to bring their kids in with them due to a lack of childcare."
To accommodate parents with younger children, CareerSource Capital Region offers child friendly hours Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM at its career centers. Parents who are home with their kids may also obtain assistance via telephone or video conference anytime Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
Teens and parents should contact CareerSource Capital Region to schedule an appointment with the career advising team to help with job searches – offered at no cost to career seekers.
