Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for August 2025
Workforce Development Month: A Tribute to Staff at CSCR and Their Community Impact
GADSDEN, JEFFERSON, LEON, & WAKULLA COUNTIES, FL – According to Florida Department of Commerce the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 4.7 percent for August 2025. This rate was 0.8 percentage point greater than the region’s year ago rate of 3.9 percent and was 0.3 percentage point above the state rate of 4.4 percent.
Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.9 percent; Jefferson County was at 4.3 percent; Leon County was at 4.7 percent; and Gadsden County was at 5.5 percent. There were 9,782 unemployed residents in the capital area.
The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in August 2025 were as follows:
- Registered Nurses
- Software Developers
- Customer Service Representatives
- Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products
- Computer Occupations, All Other
- Retail Salespersons

“Our staff, and the staff off our contracted service providers, are the heartbeat of workforce development in the capital region,” said Charlotte Brown, HR & Communications Director at CSCR. “From career coaching and employer engagement to community outreach and program innovation, their work transforms the lives of our neighbors and their families every day.”
For proof of the incredible efforts of workforce professionals at CSCR, the public is invited to view the newly published 2024–2025 Annual Report, which showcases the impactful work carried out by workforce professionals at CSCR. Highlights include:
- 5,761 career seekers served through paid internships, training scholarships, career counseling, and job search assistance
- 1,489 employers supported with job postings, recruitment events, and professional development services
- Expanded services into Jefferson County, offering weekly career assistance at the Jefferson County K-12 School in Monticello
- Signature events and initiatives included:
- Find a Job Friday – mini hiring fairs held monthly at career centers
- Paychecks for Patriots – veteran hiring fair
- LEAD (Leaders Evolve and Develop) – leadership development training
- Prep for Vets Lunch & Learn – veteran career readiness sessions
