Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for May 2025

Local Businesses Thrive with CareerSource Capital Region’s Tailored Workforce Solutions

GADSDEN, JEFFERSON, LEON, & WAKULLA COUNTIES, FL – According to Florida Department of Commerce , the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 3.8 percent for May 2025. This rate was 0.5 percentage point greater than the region’s year ago rate of 3.3 percent and was 0.1 percentage point greater than the state rate of 3.7 percent for May 2025.

Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.0 percent; Jefferson County was 3.4 percent; Leon County was at 3.8 percent; and Gadsden County was at 4.4 percent. There were 7,868 unemployed residents in the capital area.  

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in May 2025 were as follows:  

  • Registered Nurses
  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products
  • Software Developers
  • Computer Occupations, All Other   
  • Customer Service Representatives
  • Retail Salespersons
