Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for July 2024
CareerSource Capital Region Invites Adults to Enroll in High-Impact Training Programs
More than $800,000 Available for Training Opportunities and Financial Aid
GADSDEN, JEFFERSON, LEON, & WAKULLA COUNTIES, FL – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 4.0 percent for July 2024. This rate was 0.6 percentage point greater than the region’s year ago rate of 3.4 percent and was 0.2 percentage point above the state rate of 3.8 percent.
Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.5 percent. Leon County followed at 3.9 percent, Jefferson County 4.3 percent, and Gadsden County at 4.7 percent.
In July, the labor force was 202,674 up 1,720 (+0.9 percent) over the year. There were 8,015 unemployed residents in the region.
The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in July 2024 were:
- Registered Nurses
- Retail Salespersons
- Secretaries and Administrative Assistants, Except Legal, Medical, and Executive
- First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers
- Medical and Health Service Managers
- Software Developers
More than $800,000 is available for adults who are eager to upskill or change careers and have low household income, through the Talent & Training solutions program. Individuals interested in pursuing training may qualify for up to $10,000 in financial assistance provided by CareerSource Capital Region in more than 100 educational programs.
Top training programs include, but are not limited to:
- Commercial Driver License (CDL)
- Phlebotomy
- Emergency Medical Technician
- Firefighter
- Cyber Security IT Professional

By participating in the Talent & Training Solutions program, completing a short term or secondary education isn’t the only benefit. Adults gain:
